Regular Activities in the Village

You need never be bored in Charlton Horethorne.  Call any of the following groups and a welcome is assured.

Located in Charlton Horethorne Village Hall

Art and Craft Workshop
Come along with your knitting, crochet, painting, drawing, tapestry or something similar that you would like to do whilst spending a fun hour or two in like-minded company.
New members always welcome – pay as you go – £3.00 per session.
Wednesdays between 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.

C.H.A.P.S. (Charlton Horethorne Amateur Pantomime Society)
Annual production in January.   Wide range of skills involved including acting, music, scenery, costumes, lighting etc.

Charlton Horethorne & District Gardening Club
The Club meets monthly from February to November.   Events include evening talks from entertaining and informative speakers, visits to interesting gardens and much more.   The Club organises, on behalf of the village, the Summer Show of flowers and produce, arts and crafts.   For the Club’s Programme of Events and Trips for 2024 click here

Evolve Fitness – Exercise Classes for the Over 30’s
Evolve run 1 hour exercise classes – on Monday and Wednesday these start at 06.15, 09.30 and 17.15, on Thursday at 17.15 and Friday at 06.15

Fine Folk
We now have space for some new members and welcome anyone interested in a free taster session of gentle exercise and warm friendship
Dances are taken from 17th to 21st century traditions, mainly English or American.  
The Group meets on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.   Good exercise, good company – no partner needed and newcomers receive lots of help !
All profits from the £3.00 weekly charge go to charity.

Pneuma Pilates
New Pilates Class every Monday at 11.00 a.m.

Annual  Village Bonfire and Fireworks Display
Takes place on 5th November on the Millennium Green in aid of various charities.   Helpers with fund raising prior to November and at the event always welcome.

Bell Ringers – Charlton Horethorne Village Church
All newcomers very welcome – learners encouraged gently !   Physical strength and musical skills unnecessary.
If you are interested in learning you are welcome to come and watch/have a go!
Practice takes place in the bell tower on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.and bells are rung regularly at approximately two services a month. To find out more please contact the Tower Captain.

Charlton Croquet Club
A friendly sporting Club situated just off Cowpath Lane which welcomes all to play social and/or competitive croquet between April and September.   Social events also organised outside the playing season.   No experience necessary – all equipment provided. This is a monthly opportunity for any parents/carers to bring their pre-schoolers for a play at our lovely village school. Your children will have a chance to engage in some creative activities and meet other children their age.
All are welcome to join us for a play and stay session with refreshments (donations accepted for refreshments).
Taking place on the last Friday of every month between 9.30 and 11.00 a.m. during term time with the first session on Friday 13 October. Future dates are:
Friday 24 November, 8 December, 26 January 2024, 23 February, 22 March, 26 April, 24 May and 28 June.

This is an informal occasion and an opportunity to meet up with others from the village and surrounding community and put the world to rights – if only for an hour !

Horethorne Wine Society
Do you enjoy a glass of good wine ? If so, would you like to join the Horethorne Wine Society which meets four or five times a year, mainly in members’ homes, to learn more about wines.
Members also enjoy visits to vineyards and other places of viticultural interest.

Just Strollin’ – For details of next walk – Please see ‘Events’ page
As the name implies, this group enjoys strolling in the countryside and seeing far more (when we are not chatting) than from a car window.   Often ending near a pub (just right for lunch for those who wish to refuel !), the walks are around five miles and may include stiles and footbridges. Meet once a month from March to November for a 5 mile walk within a 30 minute drive of Charlton Horethorne. Newcomers very welcome !
